Fuel consumption savings of up to 14 per cent during the first 20 minutes after starting the engine will be the result of using an electric engine heater on a medium class car.
Recent tests have shown that if 25,000 cars started with preheated engines on a cold winter morning, overall they would use 22,000 litres less petrol and 2,000 litres less diesel.
Engine wear is reduced too: Tests have shown that a single cold start will cause as much wear as driving 62 miles. Even with modern engines and synthetic lubricants.
